Seniors vs Coldstream

Raith Seniors and Coldstream played out a hard-fought draw at Stark's Park.

There was a bright start by Coldstream and Allan Anderson had to be alert to clear the ball for the first corner of the match which was headed wide.

Raith suffered a big blow when Gemmell went down injured after a 50/50 challenge on the 5th minute with a suspected broken shoulder.

David Jones replaced the injured player and very nearly made an impact when his through ball narrowly evaded Rae who would have been clean through. The home team kept up the pressure.

Mark Anderson had a shot on goal collected by the 'keeper and a clever through-ball from Bathgate was misread.

Coldstream were moving the ball around well and looked to be in on goal but their number 6 was just offside.

The visitors nearly took the lead with a corner that was narrowly headed over the bar by Bryan but the home side's dominance finally paid off when Mark Anderson delightfully curled a free-kick into the bottom corner from 20 yards out.

Raith were looking dangerous every time they moved forward and a great interception by Moodie in the middle of the park saw him feed Rae up the right but his inviting cross had no takers. Raith were pushing forward in numbers and very nearly doubled their lead when Bathgate hit the bar with the keeper stranded.

Coldstream were beginning to come more into the game, knocking the ball about well with no end product. The equaliser wasn't far away though and number 28, Monaghan, fired home to level the tie.

Coldstream were now on the front foot after their equaliser and successive corners lead to a stramash in the box with Moodie ultimately clearing.

Raith broke up the pitch and a low shot by Chris Jackson was saved by the diving keeper. The last action of the half was another shot by Jackson which went just past the 'keepers right hand post.

The second half started under ever-deteriorating conditions with high winds and rain blowing through.

Good work by Rae down the right lead to a corner which the same player got on the end of with a header that was deflected wide.

The second corner came to nothing, instead, Coldstream broke up the pitch to win a corner of their own which was cleared by Moodie.

The game was opening up now and Raith had a 3 on 2 with Bathgate's strike saved low by the 'keeper.

The resulting corner was hit acrobatically over the bar by M Anderson.

Raith were looking the more likely to take the lead and their constant pressure saw them awarded

a penalty when Rae was upended in the box. Mark Anderson slotted home with ease for his second of the day and fifth goal in two games.

Raith were trying to put the game out of sight and a fantastic ball across from Rae just missed Jones and was blasted high and wide by Balloch on the run.

Coldstream were far from out of the tie and a dangerous attack was well cut out by the pacy Allan Anderson.

Then a mix up in the Raith defence saw Tait shoot just past the post when it looked easier to score.

Those scares seemed to shake Raith into action.

The industrious Rae sent in a delivery for M Anderson but the cross was just too heavy and then good feet from Bathgate to make himself space for a shot saw him shooting narrowly past the 'keepers top left corner. The home team kept on pushing and a good save by the Coldstream 'keeper denied M Anderson his hattrick. Coldstream were looking dangerous going forward and drew level when a speculative, wind-assisted Monaghan shot from range flew into the Raith net

Raith Seniors 2-2 Coldstream.

The game ebbed and flowed from end to end and it looked like Raith had nicked it when Craig Stewart shot from range but the ball bounced off the bar and over.

It was end to end stuff again and the visitors raced up the pitch and struck the bar as well. In the dying seconds of the match, Mark Anderson had a shot deflected wide and the subsequent corner was hit over by Anderson.
