First I would like to start of by hoping everyone is keeping well & staying safe during this difficult times. Remember it’s not forever, this will end & things will hopefully get back to some sort of normality for us.
Most of you will be aware that my name is Jim Harvey, I’m the Founder/Manager/Player/kitman/media officer at Raith Seniors.. I first started Raith Seniors after completing the FFIT at Raith Rovers.
I started the team off by playing walking football and progressing the lads back in to 11 aside football. Over the years there has been more positives than negatives. It’s been brilliant to see the guys develop and even make some of their dreams come true playing at Starks Park and taken with field with some of their hero’s from the past.
I like to try and get everyone involved and we have progressed for a group of 10 guys to over 60 on the books with an average of 30 guys a week at training depending on people’s family and work commitments.
We have some very good strong links in the community with both local and national sponsors.
We have developed local partnerships with fitness instructors and sports therapist to help keep the boys fit and match ready.
This year has seen my new latest idea start to come forward with the introduction of new cup competition that we named after Gregor Gibbons after he sadly passed away.
16 senior teams from across Scotland have started to compete in this years tournament. This was off to a good competitive start but played in the right spirit. Fingers crossed this will continue later in the year.
What Raith Seniors means to me? -
I love being able to be part of a team where we all get stuck in, it’s a great squad of boys who are all committed to the team, all get on with each other most of the time and give 100% to make the club work,
We are small footballing family maybe a bit daft at times.
On a personal view It’s rewarding to see the guys become confident and stronger in their own abilities. As Manager I’m very proud to say I’m part of this team and look forward to continuing to build what we have developed over the years.
I am looking forward to getting stuck in and started again in the near future.
