On Sunday 25th August 2019, the senior lads entertained Men Matter F.cfrom Glasgow in the blistering midday heat at Starks Park, Kirkcaldy in a match the left both managers pulling their hair out at some of the defending.
Both teams started well and trying to pass the ball but Raith Seniors playing some excellent football from the back.
Raith took the lead after a fantastic through ball put Gemmel one on one with the keeper and he neatly fired the ball in to the bottom left hand corner to put the Raith lads 1-0.
Raith were playing some fantastic football and causing the Men Matter defence lots of problems especially from corner kicks with Moodie firing two headers wide, it was far from one-way traffic with the youthful forward Lee for Men matter causing all sort of problems.
Men matter equalised after the Raith defence were caught napping and a through ball to Elliot who fired home passed Harvey in goal with the Raith defenders screaming for offside.
This seemed to wake Raith up who went straight up the other end of the park and Mitchell fired home from the left hand side to put Raith 2-1 up.
Another fantastic move down the left and the ball was played in to Gemmel who worked himself in to space before firing the ball home to put Raith 3-1 up.
Raith continued to push and were guilty of several poor finishes from close range and Moodie was still causing problems for the Men Matter defence from corners.
Raith seniors sat back and allowed Men Matter to get back in to the game and their hard work paid off with another through ball and the Raith defence claiming for offside allowed Derek Elliot to run through on Harvey and fire home.
Raith went up the other end and a cross was swung in from the left from Simpson and Gemmel took it down and fired a shot for it only to hit a defenders arm and the ref point to the spot, it looked a soft penalty.
Gemmel stepped up and fired placed the ball in the bottom right corner for his hatirck and Raith 4th goal.
Men Matter weren’t lying down and another ball through the Raith defence saw Men’s Matter make it 4-3 on half time.
Half time Raith -4-3 Men Matter
Raith Seniors manager changed things around at half time and took off Anderson and replaced him with Andy Campbell to make his debut for the senior’s lads.
Raith senior started the second half getting the ball down and passing around and were causing the Men Matter defence a host of problems but some poor finishing and fantastic goalkeeping stopped the senior lads from scoring however they continued to push forward and got the goals they deserved.
A fantastic move down the right saw Simpson put through and he fired the ball past the keeper for Raith’s 5th goal.
Raith continued to push forward and Moodie was still causing all sorts of problem from the Men matter defence and finally got the goal he deserved when the ball was swung in from the right and he beat the defender to the near post and hammered the header home.
Men Matter continued to work hard and Raith had keeper Harvey to thank for preventing Men Matter scoring with 4 or 5 saves however Men Matter did
score when a long ball was put over the top and Lee ran on to it Anderson did fantastic to get back and beat Lee to the ball but it got stuck between his feet and rather than passing to the keeper he lost out and Lee ran on to it and fired home Men Matter 4th goal.
Men Matter got their 5th goal thanks to Raith keeper Harvey after he tried to pick out Rae in midfield but his pass was short and lee intercepted it and fired home.
As the time ticked out Men Matter were reduced to 10 men after a player was sent off for foul and abusive language after disagreeing with a referring decision.
Andy Campbell put in a fantastic 45 minutes and worked hard up front and will be a welcome addition to the team
