Raith seniors entertained Livingston at a wet Michael Woods on Sunday (12/8/18). Its had been a year since the last time the teams had played with Raith seniors running out comfortable winners 7-3 that day.
A much changed Livingston team turned up ready to play against a decent Raith side except the patch work defence that see Jim Harvey filling in at centre half due to injuries and absences and Lee McGovern coming in at left back.
The match started of scrappy with Raith passing the ball around well without creating any real chances.
Livingston were attacking well and causing the Raith defence and took the lead when there captain Scott Curran fired home after a well worked counter attack to give them a 1-0 lead.
Raith levelled after an individual run and finish by Sam Guess.
Half time 1-1
Livingston came out all guns blazing at the start of the 2nd half with the Raith defence standing up well to the challenge and what did make it passed them their inspirational goalkeeper Jason Houston kept Livingston and bay with some fantastic saves.
After 50 minutes a well worked move down the left saw a Mark Anderson shot saved and Craig “Skippy” Stewart fired a volley home from 8 yards. With the 2nd goal Raith gained composure and confidence and started to play some really good football but still required to be on their toes as Livngston were still a threat on the break.
Short time later a clearance by Jason Houston is taken down by Sam Guess from the air like a 2 yard pass and beats a few players before firing home to put Raith 3-1 up.
Raith continued to push forward and a cross from the right from Mark “Sparky” Anderson evades the goalkeeper and rattles the post before being cleared from danger.
Short time later Livingston lost their goalkeeper and with no replacement, Raith offered them there back up keeper and Kyle Skinner took his place in the Livingston goal and his first action was to pick out another Kevin Mercer stunner as he fired home from 25 yards with the help of the underside of the bar to make it 4-1.
Short time later another good move down the right saw Mark Anderson set up Ross Greer to fire home from close range to make it 5-1.
After 85 minutes the scoring was finished when Sam Guess once again fired home after another solo effort for Raith’s 6 and his hatrick.
