Raith Seniors 9-3 Aberdeen

Raith Seniors entertained Aberdeen in Glenrothes on Sunday 22nd July 2018. Aberdeen were slightly under strength due to injuries and holidays but still managed to assemble a strong squad for this match. 

 

 

The match started fairly evenly with Raith having slightly the better of the first 10mins. Raith took the lead after 15mins When Mark Anderson put them in the lead. With Aberdeen still arguing between themselves over who was at fault for the goal Kevin Mercer scored a screamer from 25 yards leaving the keeper helpless.

 

Aberdeen were shell shocked at this time and Raith added a 3rd goal after 19 minutes when John Gemmel found himself free in the box to finish nicely that gave Raith a comfortable lead that no one seen coming 5 minutes earlier.

 

Aberdden continued to work hard and got a goal back when Pawel Groczynski scored from a tight angle after 25mins.

 

This goal seemed to wake Raith up again who went up the other end and John Gemmel scored again.

 

Aberdeen conceded a needless  penalty right on half time which John Gemmell  scored completed his hatrick.

 

HALF TIME

 

Raith 5-1 Aberdeen

 

Raith soon increased their lead to 7-1 when they scored in 55 through John Gemmell and Kevin Mercer scored another screamer after 62 minutes.

Dave Dey got another goal back for Aberdeen when his low shot slipped through the Raith keepers legs to make it 7-2. Raith again increased their lead scoring in the 75th and 80th minute to make in 9-2.

 

Kyle Skinner came on for his debut in goals with 10 minutes to go and the first thing he did was pick Pawel Groczynski  strike out the net and scoring his 2nd of the match.

 

Raith were still not finshed and scored in the last few minutes via Jock Gemmel and his 5th of the match.

Raith 9-3 Aberdeen 

 

Summary

 

The game was close until 3 goals in 5 minutes gave Raith some breathing space and allowed them to settle and pass the ball around. Aberdeen’s goalkeeper was in inspirational form and pulled out some magnificent saves.

 

Aberdeen were under strength compared to the last meeting between the sides as Raith fielded almost the exact same squad in the 5-5 draw.
